The Gilbert Inn

Answers to Your Questions:

Is breakfast served at the Gilbert Inn?

No.  Operated as a bed and breakfast until 2009, the Gilbert Inn now concentrates on providing lodging in an historic setting.

But you won’t be hungry!  There are many good restaurants within literally less than a five minute walk from the Inn’s front door.  So guests have many choices in selecting, not only what they what to eat, but where and at what time they would like to dine!  Whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner, they are all close by the Gilbert Inn.

In addition to restaurants, are bars, stores and other fun places are nearby?

The Gilbert Inn is in the heart of this vibrant resort town, one block south of Broadway, Seaside's main street.  There are many eating, drinking, vintage arcades entertainment facilities, shops and galleries on Broadway, all within a short walk from the Inn.  A movie theater, an outlet mall, surf shops, more restaurants and all services normally offered in a beach town are all within a mile of the Inn.  Within a ten to twenty minute drive you will find museums, parks (including Lewis & Clark National Park), hiking and out of the way beaches.  Click here to go to a list of Happenings on Oregon’s North Coast.

Will my room have a private bathroom?

Yes!  All of the Gilbert Inn's rooms have private bathrooms with a tub and shower combination.

Will there be a hair dryer in my room?

Yes, each of the Gilbert Inn's guest rooms have hair dryers.

What kind of bed will I have in my room?

Each of the Gilbert Inn's rooms have one queen sized bed.

Are any discounts to the room rate available?

Even though you may find older publications showing discounts, the Gilbert Inn website is the only official source for current policies and discounts.  If you have questions be sure to check with the Inn.  Some discounts may be available.  The Gilbert Inn also has occasional special offers.  Be sure to check back from time to time.  You will always find the latest offers and room prices here on the web.

Are children permitted at the Gilbert Inn?

No.  Your rest and enjoyment in a romantic setting is of first importance at the Gilbert Inn, therefore children are not appropriate and cannot be accommodated.  Quite a few guests come to the Inn to get some time away from children, their own and the children of others.  Because the Inn advertises that it is for adults only, it is unfair to other guests to make exceptions.

May I bring my pet?

No, the Gilbert Inn cannot accommodate pets.

May I smoke at the Gilbert Inn?

No, the Gilbert Inn is a non-smoking establishment.

The only smoke allowed is from the July 4th fireworks,

just a couple hundred yards from the Inn’s front door!

Is the Inn able to accommodate people with disabilities?

The Gilbert Inn, a family house built in 1892, has no elevators, ramps or special bathroom features.  Because of this it is not appropriate for people with serious disabilities.

Will there be someone to carry my luggage to the guest room?

No,  please plan on handling your own luggage.  There is no bell staff.  This is a little inn and the workers here are usually rather diminutive as well!  It is often a good idea to pack several small bags rather than one or two big suitcases.  If you are in a room on the second floor this not only lightens the load but also makes it easier to navigate the century old staircase.

What kind of payments are accepted?

The Gilbert Inn accepts major credit cards and cash.  A credit card deposit is required to secure a reservation and at check-in when paying cash.

Will my credit card be charged when I make a reservation?

No, not if you book directly on the Gilbert Inn's website or with the Inn by telephone.  Your credit information is taken only to hold your reservation.  Your credit card will not be charged until check-in time.  Please note there are independent agents with whom you may book, BedandBreakfast.com and Expedia for example, that have different policies and do charge your card at the time the reservation is made.

What is the Gilbert Inn's cancellation policy?

The Gilbert Inn has a 7 day cancellation policy.  Cancellations within 7 days of the reserved date are subject to billing for the entire length of the reservation.

How do I get to the Gilbert Inn?

Go to the Pacific Ocean and stop!  The Gilbert Inn is just a few hundred feet east of the beach in Seaside, Oregon.  Here is a link to travel directions and a map.

How long does it take to drive to the Inn?

From Portland it takes an hour and a half.  If are coming in from the Portland Airport (PDX) add another 20 to 30 minutes.

From Seattle it takes three and a half hours once clear of Seattle traffic.

From the south on U.S. 101 the Internet mapping services show it takes four hours to drive the 166 miles from Florence, Oregon.  Although that is only averaging 40 M.P.H it is still optimistic.  In reality most people average closer to 25 M.P.H on the 101.  The reason?  The road is two lane and a bit curvy.  And there are so many beautiful places to stop!    We have had guests leave the Inn and go forty miles south on a day trip on U.S. 101 and return to us  twelve hours later.  They said, "We stopped at every turnout.  We've never seen anything  like it!  It is so gorgeous!"  It is best to make your driving plan based on 25 MPH when coming up from the south on U.S. 101.  Here is a link to travel directions and a map.

What if I am delayed on my arrival?

Check-in time is from 4:00 P.M until 7:00 P.M.  In the small inn business it is "early to bed and early to rise."  Please remember that the person checking you in may be the same person on duty in the morning!  If you are delayed please contact the Inn as soon as possible to arrange for a late check-in.

How close is the beach?

The Gilbert Inn is one block east of the beach.  It takes about 90 seconds to walk from the front door, across the Promenade, to the sandy, wide Pacific beach.  You probably saw the picture of Tillamook Head, above, taken on June 27, 2008.  It was shot on the beach just 300 feet from the Gilbert Inn.  The photo below was taken from the same spot, this time looking north.  It was a fine day in the middle of summer.  Look close, you might actually see some people!  That’s the Oregon coast for you!
